As reported on our official Facebook page yesterday, Carrie Fisher has passed away at the age of 60, according to multiple sources.
She suffered a heart attack on December 23rd during a flight from London, UK to Los Angeles, CA and was taken off the flight to a nearby hospital. Although she was reported to be in stable condition, complications arose, and she was confirmed dead by her 24 year old daughter Billie Lourd at 8:55AM the morning of December 27.
In an official statement, Lourd expressed, “She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly,” and “Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”
Ms. Fisher was, of course, best known for her role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars Saga, the twin sister of Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker, daughter of Darth Vader, lover of Han Solo, and top heroine in the franchise. Apart from her iconic role in the original Star Wars Trilogy, and last year’s The Force Awakens, Fisher also starred in such films as The Blues Brothers, The Man With One Red Shoe, Hannah and Her Sisters, Shampoo, and When Harry Met Sally, to name a few.
On behalf of all of us here at Nerd Nation, we would like to offer our deepest sympathies to the family, friends, and fans of Ms. Fisher. May the Force always be with you, ma’am… and thank you.
