Greetings Fellow Nerds!
Happy October to you all! It’s been a crazy time here at Nerd Nation HQ, and as you can probably guess, we’ve been extremely busy working on new content, new events, new equipment, and new ways to improve your reading experience. With all that in mind, I felt it was time for a much-needed update… a “State of the (Nerd) Nation” Address, if you will.
You know, there’s always been something magical about this time of year for me. I remember fondly being a kid around the Halloween season, putting together the best costume I could, gearing up for that one awesome night of spooky fun, staying up way past my bedtime watching horror movies with my dad, and ultimately hitting as many houses as I could, always trying to one-up last year’s candy haul. It’s been a lot of years since then, at times more than I can even believe, but I still have a very deep love for Halloween season. I just tend to celebrate it a bit differently these days. This year in particular, I’ll be celebrating it along with the Nerd Nation family as we sponsor the First Annual ‘ALL HALLOWS GEEK‘ event in Greenville, South Carolina. This event will serve as a fundraiser for the upcoming ‘Big Fandom Greenville’ convention (scheduled for November of 2016) that I am proud to announce we have officially partnered with. That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, we are officially back in the convention game – this time, I feel, with a much better staff, location, and overall gameplan. I have a need in my heart to thank Michael Soler, and everyone on the BFG board of directors for believing in me, and allowing me the opportunity to put my talents to use and share something I love with a fantastic developing area I’ve come to love from afar.
As many of you already know, I’ve also launched the new bi-monthly ‘GEEKTOPIA‘ nightlife events in Charlotte, North Carolina alongside my partners at Tri-Force Entertainment – a threefold partnership of Nerd Nation, 13th Floor EFX, and SIngle Cell Productions. Thus far, each one has been incredibly successful and profitable, which translates to a lot of new improvements to Nerd Nation’s overall quality – including new computers, new “next gen” gaming consoles, new marketing/promotional material, and of course, a bigger travel budget enabling us to cover more great conventions and events, and ultimately bring more great content to you. Additionally, Tri-Force has also produced two great films (including an award-winning Doctor Who fan film and my very first full film writing credit as well) with many more on the horizon… so needless to say, we’ve already went full-steam-ahead on this thing.
Recently, we also partnered with Allied Marketing Firm, which grants us press-exclusive early access to screenings of all the biggest films coming out of Hollywood. This means even more great movie reviews from our fantastic film critics and staff writers. Couple that with nearly a dozen active sponsors, and Nerd Nation is not only surviving, but thriving in only just over one year of existence. By the way… Happy (slightly belated) Birthday to us!!
Finally, please allow me to personally thank each and every one of you for your continued support. We are proudly independent, and without contributions from our sponsors, and more importantly readers like YOU, we would not be able to continue doing all of this. So again, from the bottom of my heart… THANK YOU! This is only the beginning, and there’s so, so much more to come. Here’s to an amazing first year in publication, and here’s to many more!
Cheers!
