Earlier today it was revealed (via The Hollywood Reporter) that ‘Celebrity Deathmatch’ – the classic claymation series that pitted various celebrities and pop culture figures against one another in comedically brutal battles to the death – will be returning to MTV2 “in the near future.”

The “reinvented series” will retain its original core concept, but (per an official press release) will “be updated for a world of social media and hourly Twitter wars.” The new pilot marks the MTV show’s second revival, following a brief stint on its sister network in 2006 and 2007.
The original Celebrity Deathmatch debuted on MTV in 1998 and went on to air 75 episodes before ending its run in 2002. As of the time of this article, there has been no announcement as to exactly when the new series will return, but it’s already garnered quite the reaction on social media from its well-known cult following.
Stay tuned for updates to this article as they are available.
