Greetings Nerds!
Dave Ward here, playing roving-reporter, photographer, and con-goer ambassador for the Nerd Nation, attending the 2014 installment of the Asheville Comics Expo (better known to locals as simply A.C.E.) – Mr. Harlequin was supposed to attend, but a nasty cold kept him sidelined. Because he didn’t want to be “that guy” who gave everyone con crud, and god bless him for that, he took one for the team and stayed behind on this trip.

The Asheville Comics Expo, in Asheville, NC is in its 3rd year; hosting a giant one-day event featuring comic books, collectibles, and various other “homemade wares” vendors, along with comic artists, discussion panels, authors, and of course, cosplay groups. Special guests included Shawn Crystal of “Deadpool” and “Wolverine and the X-Men”, Jeremy Whitley of “Priceless” and Action Lab Entertainment, IDW’s “Doctor Who“ illustrator Kelly Yates, and many others. The con was well attended, with the local con-goers getting into the spirit of the occasion dressing up in some awesome costumes, as well as hosting a costume contest.
Our good friends the Carolina Ghostbusters were there as well with their authentic (and fully-functional) Ecto-1 and charity sales as well as convention mainstays the 501st Legion (Carolina Garrison), and the Mandalorian Mercs always hunting the next charitable bounty. A.C.E. delivers an excellent single-day weekend show in a very scenic, and eclectic Appalachian Mountain city; and definitely one you should all check out; not only for the excellent convention, but also for perusing the “weirdest city in NC” after you are finished bankrupting yourself on excellent nerd merch!
But don’t take our word for it… check out these great photos (below), and go see for yourself next September when A.C.E. returns for its 2015 offering!
Tune in next time for more adventures in convention land… same nerd time… same nerd channel!
